Our ancestors knew this threshold well: the moment when winter has not yet let go, but spring is already breathing underground. Winter-summer, intertemporal.

Nascence #1 & #2 — about this moment. Not about birth as an event, but about the fragile, unfinished state that precedes — when matter was still holding its breath, when form had not yet decided what it would become. Two panels, two halves of one breath: dark earth and pale sprouts, silence and the first signs of life.

In the context of my practice, Nascence belongs to a line of works that treat the canvas not as a painting, but as a living surface of — that captures time, touch and transformation. For the collector, this diptych offers not a frozen image, but an object that works: it changes with light, slowly gives up its smell and opens new layers, the longer you live with it. This is a thing for someone who wants not a job that just hangs, but one to which — wants to return, a quiet anchor, a pause point in the space it occupies.

The diptych carries in its surface a real forest land — grounding element that directly connects the viewer with the original essence of nature. The thin olfactory layer hidden underneath the paint evokes memories and sensory associations, turning the work into a conversation between the viewer and the natural world. This is not an illustration of nature. It is the nature enclosed in the work itself.

This modern diptych gives a refined, grounded presence to contemporary interiors and will be an exceptional acquisition for collectors looking for conceptual depth, material narrative and work that continues to unfold over time.

Details of:
oil and acrylic on cotton canvas, time capsule (forest earth, olfactory component)
Each panel is: 30x30x2 cm | 11.8×11.8×0.8 inches
The size of the diptych: 60x30x2 cm | 23.6×11.8×0.8 inches

© Daria Harlauta, 2026 (signed and certified)

The Myth: There is a moment before the first snowdrop breaks through the crust of the earth — when the soil is still cold, still dark, but something inside has already begun to awaken.
