The Scarlet Temperament

To create this picture, I was inspired by the overflowing expression and explosive character of the parrot macaw. I wanted to get away from the usual festive decorativeness and show the bird as a strong, independent and full-fledged subject with its own powerful temperament.
I twisted the whole canvas around the dense, fiery red brushstrokes on the head and neck of the bird. Graphic image adds a clear light pattern around the eyes and a massive contrast beak that holds the entire structure of the portrait. A deep dark background literally pushes the image forward, creating a stage effect where color becomes the main language of character and inner strength.
