Series "Portraits in feathers"
At the heart of this work is admiration for the speed, ease and fragility of life. The image of a hummingbird frozen at a flower made me think about how a moment can be both elusive and incredibly dense in its energy. It's a flash painting.
To convey this tension, I vertically divided the background of the canvas into two deaf fields — glowing yellow and deep black. At their junction, the thin beak of a hummingbird touches bright red buds. I removed all the unnecessary background detail, leaving only the rhythm of the wings, juicy glare and texture of the stroke to fix on the canvas a clean, pulsating spark of life here and now.
